Peter Remembered

From Phil Bowell

Peter was a stalwart of BCAL and I liked him a lot - he was a good, amiable person - great with people and therefore a good people manager. He was also great at his job and was always on his game, especially when the Operation called for exemplary action. He will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace Peter - Fly High.

From Ranald Noel-Paton: Sad news. I remember him well and yes, he will be sorely missed.

From Cherry Perkins: Sad to hear the loss of Peter

Very sad news. Peter and I were good friends since British United in 1962 and we have met regularly since. He also worked for Silver City at Ferryfield and later as manager in Nigeria. One of the original, and best, of the ’Traffic’ team.

Very sad news - I worked with Peter a lot, including with NAHCO in Lagos, where he once acted as intermediary in a major ‘dash’ to immigration, to prevent my deportation, after a motorcyclist ran into the back of my car.

From Roger Moore: It was a pleasure to know you Peter, may you rest in peace.

From Alan Reeves:
Very sad , a character from BUA to BCal to  Lagos in those early days where peter was the airport manager. RIP Peter

From Ann Roberts

From Frances Taylor: RIP Peter. Sincere condolences to Peter's family and friends.

From Lesley-Ann Hutchinson: RIP Peter

From Tony Realff:
So sad to hear of the passing of Pete who had been a great mate for over 50 years. He was best known I feel for his flamboyant days as a PSDO at Gatwick. He led from the front being no happier than addressing the hordes of delayed passengers, clipboard in had in a clearly theatrical way. A great guy, enormous character and great friend.

From Linda Collyer: I worked at Gatwick with Peter and he came to our last reunion. Remembered

From William Gardner-Hunter: RIP

From Derek Jenkins: I remember meeting Peter at Lagos Airport, when he was station manager there.

From Jackie Lloyd: R.I.P Peter

From Peter Barrie
Sad news indeed. Peter was a close friend for many years. Great sense of humour and all round nice guy. It is sad that so many of the “Old Mob” are joining the big airline in the sky ! But at least we have great memories.

From Brian Russell: RIP Peter - a big personality and my D/O early 1970’s. Sad to hear. Condolences to his family

From Jeff Youtan
RIP Peter. We worked together in Singapore during the difficult period when BCal closed our operation to the Far East. Good guy!

From Coreen Wilcox: How sad. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace Pete

From Colin Varty
Very sorry to hear about Peter's passing. Our paths crossed in BUA and BCAL, then more recently had a long chat with him at Alan Steven’s funeral and again at the last BUA reunion Linda Collyer referred to. He was a real gentleman.

From Seona Craig: I remember Peter - I was also a decimal trainer - he was a great guy

From Dolorsmaria Vila-mills: Sad news , RIP Peter... Condolences to his family and friends

From Susie Webb: Oh I’m so sorry to hear that news. Condolences to his family and friends.

From Colin Alexander
Very Sad. I didn’t know Peter that well until I worked with him when I was seconded to NAHCO in Lagos, a joint venture company involving Nigerian Government and BCAL, UTA, SABENA, IBERIA and PAN AM. He helped me settle in and understand the culture of both NAHCO with managers from participating companies and Nigeria itself.

From Julia and Stuart Richardson
We both worked with Peter, he was always very amiable and understanding with a great aviation knowledge. He will be sadly missed. RIP

From Jacqueline Dillmann
: My sincere condolences to the family and friends.

From Pauline Bowell
So very sad to learn of Peter’s passing. He was a really lovely man. We saw him most recently a couple of years ago at the Slinfold reunion and enjoyed spending the afternoon with him catching up. One early memory I have of him in Passenger Services was being interviewed by him after passing my probation, black badge or something similar.  He saw I from the file I was due to take my German language test that afternoon, so proceeded to talk to me in German for the rest of the interview! I understood every word he uttered of course, but was SO nervous, I couldn’t speak one word of German in response!  Needless to say I cancelled my test and never did get my German language badge or the 50p a week that came with it! Rest peacefully dear Peter, my condolences to all his family.
