Charles Goodrich : BCal Marketing / BA CEO of Regional Air in Africa
Charles passed peacefully on 13th December 2024, he had been unwell for sometime. His son Fraser was with him. My sincere condolences go out to his family, friends and former colleagues.

Charles left BCAL marketing after 16 years, first spending 8 years with Gulf Air in Asia. His last BR stations were Riyadh, Dubai and Houston!

BA Speedwing sent him to deepest Africa for 3 years, first Malawi and most recently to Nairobi where he was CEO of BA's latest franchise airline Regional Air. Charles was back in the UK, near Inverness.

Very sad news. If ever there was a fan of Africa in the aviation and travel sense, Charles was a great supporter. He enjoyed a long and varied career with BCAL and will be missed by many.

From Sue Barter
I remember Charles from his time in Interline, Charles was such a  lovely person to deal with. He lived near me in Crawley Down and we would often give each other a lift when there were car troubles. A true gentleman and always immaculately dressed. Will miss seeing him and gatherings .

From Roger Phillips
Charles joined Interline Sales in BCAL as one of my DSMs in 1973/4 and our friendship has been continuous ever since. We worked together again in Gulf Air and had frequent contact when he was in Singapore and I was in PNG with Air Niugini. At that time I stayed with the Goodrich family while in transit through SIN on a few occasions. A few years ago Charles visited us in Gloucestershire prior to a long overdue reunion with his estranged brother who lived only a mile away. Happily that went very well because within a year he had passed away. Charles was always very rightly proud of his sons Fraser and Hamish and they formed a major focus of his throughout but particularly in his later years. Our friendship spanned 50 years and I am very sad to lose Charles. RIP my friend. A rare Gentleman.

From David Hicks: Rest peacefully Charles.

From Richard Bristow:
RIP Charles. A really nice guy and a real professional. A pleasure to work with and sorely missed.

From Brenda Painter: Very sad. Condolences to his family.

From James Dixon
My sincere condolences to Fraser and Charles' family on his passing, which is very sad news. Charles was the consummate gentleman and truly a delight to work with . I worked as his opposite number alongside Trefor Griffiths for BA in the Gulf States and KSA when BCal took over the Saudi Arabia and Dubai routes for a period prior to the merger . While we were in full on commercial competition he was always considered and wise in his counsel . Charles contributed to a significant extent in building BCal's reputation and with the GSA's in the region in challenging times before the emergence of EK. I have fond memories of times in his company. RIP Charles

From Warren Funnell
I was deeply saddened hearing that Charles Goodrich had passed away. Although not directly working together we became very close friends. We took several camping and memorable holidays in Scotland together with our respective, at the time, girlfriends. Although not in contact these days, the fond memories will always remain. Rest in Peace dear friend.

From Derek Russell
I worked with Charles over several years in many locations. An immaculate and lovely man who is remembered as “Mr. Interline”. Sad to hear of his passing.

From John Morgan: I remember Charles very well, a sad loss.

From Howard Meredith
Having known Charles as a friend for over fifty years this is an extremely sad time for me. Very difficult to find words to express how I feel. Rest in peace Charles you were a true gentleman.

From Stuart and Julia Richardson
Very sad news. Charles was a friend who was always an immaculately dressed gentleman and a unique character. He appointed the GSA’s that I worked with in Abu Dhabi and Muscat. Meeting again in Bangkok where Charles was working for Gulf Air and myself with British Airways,  but the talk was always BCal. So many good memories. Sincere condolences to his family. Rest in Peace our dear friend.

From George Banks
I remember Charles in my early days with BCAL he was in interline sales if I remember correctly  and along with the rest of the team was always helpful to me when I needed interline tickets for duty travel to west Africa. BCAL frequencies in those days were not so frequent so I often had to request for an interline ticket to get me back to the UK. He was always pleasant helpful and professional . How time flies, and I was so sorry to hear of his passing. May he RIP

From David Williams
Always a true “well spoken English gentleman“, loved working and being around Charles. Again we have lost another one of our BCAL family. RIP my friend. Condolences to the family.

From Andy Coupland
Charles had a habit of calling me late in the evening, even in recent years, and generally from a reception somewhere in Africa. He would regale me with an often hilarious description of the events unfolding before him during the closing stages of the event when only the hardiest party-animals remained. During the last such call he was interrupted by a raucous individual who was clearly much the worse for wear. After the noise had subsided Charles whispered with mock reverence “I think that was the German Ambassador”. Only Charles could have made that call! He’ll be sadly missed. “Go gently into that good night”, old buddy.

From Barry Ashton
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Charles. During my time in sales and marketing we worked together for a number of years. My condolences to his family.

From Paul Sawyer
Charles taught me a lot when I joined interline sales, always a gentleman. What he taught me helped me throughout my career.
