This is an interesting item. My thanks to Rohan Alce for the information behind it's issue.

It was a USA based promotion whereby First Class passengers could collect a different tartan each time they flew. After receiving their first tartan they could send off for the plaque to mount them on.

The example below is for a Dr William O. Harrison and is in the collection here who must have been a regular First Class passenger as he has a full shield; and I have also seen one for a Ronald W. Kuper, also dated from 1982
