The Ian Lucas Gallery Pt 1
The following photos and images were kindly sent in by Ian, and I am pleased to be able to show them here
Following a promotional tour of the Far East during July, the McDonnell Douglas DC10 headed to Europe, arriving at London Heathrow from Vienna on 9th August 1972.
Thereafter a series promotional flights were made from Heathrow and Gatwick; Ian was on hand to record the arrival of the very first DC10 arrival at Gatwick.
It would be a number of years before BCal committed their business to McDonnell Douglas, there were a number of aircraft under consideration; the DC10, the L1011 and the Boeing 747.
Though rumours were circulating in March 1976 that the DC10 would be chosen but on 3rd June 1976 all was confirmed when Adam Thomson announced BCal's £35million order for two DC10 Series 30 aircraft for delivery in March 1977, with options on two more.
And later when BCal had its DC10 fleet, here we have some shots of DC10 G-BFGI undergoing a D check in Hangar 5
