The Golden Lion Children's Trust History
The Golden Lion Children’s Trust

is searching for any of you who were involved with the Charity since its beginnings in the 1970’s.

We are planning a History of the Charity, and would like to illustrate it with stories, memories, anecdotes, write-ups, photos; in fact any of the personal recordings of you as helpers, crew, wheelchair pushers, etc..

For example, on one flight the First Officer had drawn a cartoon, copies of which he handed to every child on the flight.  Who was that man??  Please contact us.  Did you fly out on the very first flight to Jersey in 1973??  In 1977, to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee we went to Le Touquet in a 707.  Were you one of the girls on the flight who entertained us all as you played in the Children’s playground on that enormous ‘Mouse Wheel’?

Were you one of the Carol singers, who travelled up to Great Ormond Street Hospital with Father Christmas to sing and entertain the children in the Cancer Ward?  Or perhaps you visited Ceres House in Brighton, to sing to the people there?  Did you take part in one of the Open Days beside the old, old Gatwick Beehive building? What are your memories?

Do you have copies of any B.CAL paper with a write-up about a G.L.C.T. activity?  Did you attend one of the Charity Balls?  What do you remember of it?  Were you involved in bottle smashing at one of our local pubs, - as a money raising scheme, of course!?

Were you on the rather infamous flight that took off from Gatwick, only to return a few minutes later with a hydraulic snag?  Were you on the flight when after landing in Jersey, a plaintive voice was heard to say “When I grow up, I want to be an Airhostess”, - and this from a delightful 12 year old girl destined to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair?

There are a hundred more activities and a thousand more stories.  Please help us to recall them for everyone to enjoy.

We are aiming to record the work of the Charity from the personal viewpoint, and need your help.

Please e-mail your memories to Tony Plumridge
