British Caledonian operated a small but important fleet of aircraft that were available for hire under their Executive Hire Service.
They enabled interconnecting flights to be made from many small airfields down to Gatwick or choosen desination, and were available for hire anytime of day enabling later connections to be met.
Also Ramp transfers could be arranged so hop off of an Aztec or Navajo and straight onto a DC10 etc without needing to go via the terminal.
