Looking back the Douglas DC-4 appears a few times in BCal's past and BUA liveried DC4's operated for a while as well as those with airlines before.
Silver City had a DC4 / C54 on lease from 1949-1951 and Airwork leased two C54's to operate their Airwork Atlantic freight service from March 1955 until its suspension in December 1955.
But Air Charter were the first airline in BCal's lineage to place orders for the DC-4, an order for 3 aircraft was placed in the summer of 1954 and in February 1955 G-ANYB was the first to arrive, she was named Atalanta.
Left is a postcard image of Air Charter's newly arrived DC-4.
She was named Atalanta was followed by G-AOFW "Jason" and G-AOXK "Golden Fleece".
Most of Air Charter's fleet of DC-4's would end up being converted as part of the Carvair programme, but some also flew in BUA livery for a time. Whilst G-AOXK was sold to a mining company, Williamson Diamonds Ltd, in Tanzania.
