John Remembered

From Kay Carl Traynor
In the 70s I was a apprentice, I was given to john in the workshop so he could guide me through many skills before they let me loose on a/c, in those two months I gained a respect for a talented man, and for years after he always had time for me, sad news, condolences to the family.

From Alan Barbour

My sincere condolences to John's family. Used to pay John out his wages in pay hut in main hanger when I worked in Cashiers department. Had plenty of chats & banter over football with him being a Spurs fan. I would then bump into him in Wingspan on base & then the Wingspan which was behind Caledonian House. Many years after leaving BCal bumped into him in at Joshua Tree restaurant in Earlswood & had lovely chat. RIP John.

John taught me my first metalworking skills when I started with BUA back in September 1969. The detail shop was my first posting during the first Crawley College recess. I always remember John with respect and gratitude. Always had a story to tell. Along with Jim Tickner, Bill Wilson, Brian Pearce Jock Hockiss, Eric the Dip, to name a few. All the apprentices learned a lot from the detail shop engineers. Not everthing taught was about metal either!!

Sorry at Johnís passing. A fine workshop engineer and a bit of a man of the world that he traveled. Always up with a tale to relate. It was nice knowing him, R.I.P. John

From Paul Robinson
It was a shock to read of Johnís passing, he seemed to be hale and hearty and very welcoming when I met him again earlier this year (2022), some 31 years after I left BA. Like many others I first met John when I was an apprentice in 1974. I learnt a lot from John during my 15 weeks in the Detail Shop.

From Alan Reeves: Farewell John RIP. An original Meadvale boy and the Oak will miss you

From Ian Haines
