The Horsham Carnival - 1983
from

If anyone has any photos where BCal or their forebears were in a local carnival
I would be pleased to show them here, please drop me a line anytime
Laurie has recently been in contact with the West Sussex County Times, a local newspaper that covers the area around Gatwick.
The paper has recently published Laurie's photo of the British Caledonian float, painted by Buster Brown, and also a short write up; all within thier Memories section.
Laurie sat on the Carnival Committee and organised an number of the events; the Committee was Chaired by Graham Groome. The British Caledonian Airways Float under the theme Happiness Is! was the focus of the Carnival procession. The BCAL Pipe band led the parade and there was a group of microlight aircraft in the park on what was to be one of the hottest days of 1983.
My thanks to Laurie for sending in the page, and for mentioning our site. It is always good to see BCal in the papers again for all to remember, and also for the extra photos of the carnival, all happily shown below..

The first two pictures are of Horsham Park Arena. One with the line up of Gliders that had been trailered in from Southdown Gliding Club at Storrington with a windsock Laurie had managed to acquire to set the scene, with some microlights and hang gliders also in the foreground.
The second shows the scene from the other direction where they had managed to get the BCAL Event Caravan put into the arena as a centrepiece. The people walking in front of the caravan are Laurie's wife Barbara, Nigel an old family friend from Dorset and both my sons Matthew and Alex. All enjoying the hottest day of the year.
