Silver City's Cross Channel Car ferry services started in July 1948 when one of their Freighters left Lympne heading for Le Touquet.

The popularity of their services grew and Silver City dominated the market for many years, flying first from Lympne and they from Ferryfield; a dedicated airport built to serve their busy services. In July 1954 SIlver City flew 222 cross channel services in one day, 98 from Ferryfield alone.
BUA liveried Freighters took over the vehicle ferry services and BUAF was formed in January 1963
