In 1971 British Caledonian sent out a letter to staff inviting them to act as escorts of unaccompanied children travelling alone, whether it be to Scotland or Amsterdam or further afield to Asia, South America, Africa and the USA.
The unacompanied minor service was underway and the ladies became known as "Aunties"
