Captain Alan Lane
Sadly Alan passed away on 27th January 2009, he was remembered in the crew room guest book from his entry there, and of course by his children John and Judith.

Alan's original Guestbook Entry
Would love to hear from any old friends who remember me from my aircrew days (DC4, DC6, Britannia, 111, B707, DC10)...Air Charter 1955, through to BCAL 1983.

After service in the Fleet Air Arm Alan started with Air Charter in 1954 and flew many types as shown by his crew room entry, finishing his flying career with a command on BCal's DC10 fleet.

One of his commands included the inaugural DC10 service from Dubai to Gatwick in G-BHDI on 14th January 1981. In all Alan logged some 23,000 fight hours over his 40 year flying career.

Alan's son, John, has been in contact and the family have found a recording Alan made when he was in his eighties; titled My Life In Aviation.

They have digitised this recording and kindly made it available here. Over the 45 minutes Alan recalls his earliest memories through his service career and onto commercial aviation with Air Charter at Southend, through BUA and on to BCal; with many insights on the aircraft types he flew.

I am pleased to be able to share this here and hope you enjoy listening to Alan's recollections.
